I think I'm gonna have to agree with most of the other posts and say that Jimi Hendrix performing the national anthem at Woodstock was the most iconic musical moment of the 1960’s. There is nothing else at the time that seems to wrap up the decade in one performance as this does. It has such chaotic energy, and I'm sure that anyone who was able to attend the event has not forgotten it since. The way that he was unapologetic about it being played in a more “unorthodox” manner. It was beautiful, the way that he mimicked the sounds of war with only his guitar, as a way to fuel the anti war movement. It showed true passion, and you knew he was pulling from his own personal experience since he himself was a veteran. Some people of course will never support playing the national anthem in a way that is not traditional, but when artists do go out of their way to play it in a new way, it is sends such a powerful method and is able to reach so many people because it becomes a huge topic of conversation all over the US. Its just news that people are easily interested in. So, his anti war message absolutely reached way more people than just those that were in the audience that day.
