Hey!
My name is Alexandra Stewart, although I just go by Alex. This upcoming semester I will be beginning my senior year here at Saint Mike’s. I am an Environmental Studies major with a Music minor. I’m from Spencer, NY which is a small town that relatively nobody has heard of. It’s about 20 minutes south of Ithaca, NY.
I chose to participate in this course primarily because it will complete my music minor. I also felt as though it would be quite enjoyable to work on over the summer since it will allow for us to all be exposed to some new music we may have never heard otherwise.
I’ve always been involved with music, especially throughout high school, participating in orchestras, choirs, and whatever else I could get myself into. Although I don’t participate in any ensembles at St Mike’s, I chose to add a music minor so I could continue learning more and not forget what knowledge in the field I already have.
I am not quite sure what I hope to learn about rock. But, I am very excited to be exposed to some new music during this class and come away with some knowledge on the history of rock which I probably would not have otherwise gone out of my way to teach myself without this course. I have already taken a look through some of what we will be reading for the class and i'm pretty excited.
It’s so difficult to choose a favorite song. But lately I have been listening to the artist Woodkid while on my way to work. Here is my current favorite song of his:

Mulderrig, Blog #1 - Introduce Yourself
Hello History of Rock colleagues,
My name is Aidan Mulderrig, and I am a rising senior here at St. Mike's. I am majoring in Political Science and English. I am from Rockville Centre, NY out on Long Island. This summer I am working as a lifeguard at the beautiful Jones Beach State Park.
Music has played an instrumental role in my life. I have been involved in church choir since the first grade, in high school I was a member of the Chamber Singers choir, and, for a brief semester, I was a member of the Sleepless Knights a cappella group. Whether it is working out in the gym, driving to work, or simply hanging out with friends; music is constantly surrounding me.
Having a mother and father who grew up in the late 60's, I have come to appreciate all types of musical groups and artists. Everyone from the Rolling Stones, to Sting, to Rod Stewart. We always have something playing in the background.
As far as my personal taste, I am a country fanatic. I find that country music has a wide range and variety that never gets stale. Some of my favorite artists/bands include: Zac Brown Band, Darius Rucker, Kenny Chesney, and, most recently, Luke Combs. Funny enough, I am going to GNA Countryfest in Saratoga, NY this July with a group of friends.
The reason I enrolled in History of Rock was to broaden my horizon, and experience music I, otherwise, would not have been exposed to. Both of my majors have a plethora of requirements, and have not allotted me enough time to experience many of the classes I am interested in. When I saw History of Rock was offered as a fully online, summer course, I knew I had to jump at the opportunity. The course material seems fascinating, and I am most excited for the multitude of Spotify playlists.
