Hello History of Rock colleagues,
My name is Aidan Mulderrig, and I am a rising senior here at St. Mike's. I am majoring in Political Science and English. I am from Rockville Centre, NY out on Long Island. This summer I am working as a lifeguard at the beautiful Jones Beach State Park.
Music has played an instrumental role in my life. I have been involved in church choir since the first grade, in high school I was a member of the Chamber Singers choir, and, for a brief semester, I was a member of the Sleepless Knights a cappella group. Whether it is working out in the gym, driving to work, or simply hanging out with friends; music is constantly surrounding me.
Having a mother and father who grew up in the late 60's, I have come to appreciate all types of musical groups and artists. Everyone from the Rolling Stones, to Sting, to Rod Stewart. We always have something playing in the background.
As far as my personal taste, I am a country fanatic. I find that country music has a wide range and variety that never gets stale. Some of my favorite artists/bands include: Zac Brown Band, Darius Rucker, Kenny Chesney, and, most recently, Luke Combs. Funny enough, I am going to GNA Countryfest in Saratoga, NY this July with a group of friends.
The reason I enrolled in History of Rock was to broaden my horizon, and experience music I, otherwise, would not have been exposed to. Both of my majors have a plethora of requirements, and have not allotted me enough time to experience many of the classes I am interested in. When I saw History of Rock was offered as a fully online, summer course, I knew I had to jump at the opportunity. The course material seems fascinating, and I am most excited for the multitude of Spotify playlists.

I've especially enjoyed Rucker's transition to country. There's a long tradition of African American innovation and artistry in country music from the beginning of the Grand Ole Opry thru today (check out the legendary Charley Pride, who was RCA's biggest selling act in the 1970s). Welcome to the course, Aidan!
ReplyDeleteI completely agree! I feel Rucker's voice perfectly suites the southern 'twang' so to speak, as well as brings a robust and soulful sound to his performances.
ReplyDeleteI don't listen to a lot of newer country music but I really enjoyed She Got the Best of Me. Thanks for linking it to Spotify and not youtube, which saves me the ad time.
