The 1960s were filled with iconic moments, not all having to do with music. The 60s were an extremely politically charged time and the music coming out of it reflects the calamity. Personally, I think the arrival of the Beatles in America is the most iconic moment musically from the 60s. The craze, or "Beatlemania," can be easily seen from some of the pictures from their first U.S. visit. Fans flooding the street just to get a glimpse of their favorite member or girls crying because of how much their music means to them. Their appearance on "The Ed Sullivan Show" proves this. It was a heavily attended performance with around 50 thousand fans in attendance. To this day it remains as one of the highest rated non-sports programs. Neilson averaged that around 50 percent of the country tuned in. Thats close to 75 million people tuning in to watch a 12 minute performance. If that doesn't prove how iconic The Beatles were nothing does.
