The Gants, originally known as the Kingsman were best known in the 1960's. The band was composed of singer Sid Herring, guitarist Johnny Freeman, bass guitarist Vince Montgomery and drummer Don Wood. The band was formed in the deep south down in Greenwood, Mississippi. The name The Gants comes from a type of shirt with a collar and buttons. Some of their biggest songs include "Road Runner", "My baby don't care", and "I wonder". Often compared to the Beatles and distanced from garage band rock, their music holds good melody and softer vocals. Unfortunately for the Gants, their band was bled out by big record labels after forcing a release of 3 albums which featured an abundance of cover music, along with several singles in the proceeding years. The rushed albums overcrowded their original singles and the band never had another hit record after Roadrunner.
For me, I find this band to be quite interesting. After watching several videos of them playing on Youtube and reading the comments on the videos, it's apparent that their fan base is dismayed by the record labels who ruined the bands future by forcing out the albums. Seeing photos and videos of the band, it strikes me how similar they look (from their hair, suits and style) to the Beatles. Also interesting to me is the length of their songs. After listening to many different bands and music from this time period, i'm amazed how short their songs are. Typically around 2 minutes, they don't fuss around and they get straight to the story they're trying to tell in their music, only repeating the chorus once or twice. The video i've attached really highlights their resemblance to the Beatles, also is one of my favorite songs that the bands put out.
